Canton can begin with a shopping list and turn into a whole day around town. First Monday brings market weekends, while downtown shops, a preserved house, and paths by the lake give you other places to explore. Leave a little space between stops for whatever catches your attention.
What's happening
See Canton events on East Texan, then keep the Visit Canton calendar handy for the publisher's details. Its listings include market weekends, car shows, and community gatherings. Individual event pages help you find the right venue before setting out.
First Monday Trade Days runs Thursday through Sunday before the first Monday of each month. The tourism department confirms a 2026 shopping weekend of October 29–November 1 on its First Monday page. Use the market calendar when choosing a future trip. The market's own website also links maps, parking information, and visitor tips. Choose a part of the grounds to begin with, and give yourself time to browse rather than trying to cover every aisle.
A few places to start
- Downtown Canton: The tourism department points visitors toward the shops around East Dallas Street. Make a downtown stop part of a market trip, or come back another day when you can spend more time looking around.
- Blackwell House Museum: The preserved home on First Monday Lane offers another way into Canton's history. The city maintains information about the house and whom to call for museum hours. Arrange the visit through those contacts if seeing the interior is part of your plan.
An afternoon outside
The town's park directory includes Cherry Creek Park, with a concrete walking path through trees and a shaded playscape. Old City Lake, at 987 Old Kaufman Road, has picnic areas, a playground, and fishing access. These are useful stops for a walk or time outside between other activities. The same directory identifies Mill Creek Reservoir separately, so check which lake you're heading toward.
A nearby outing
Black Beauty Ranch is an animal sanctuary in Murchison, a separate stop from Canton. Its operator publishes guided tour information and asks visitors to reserve a place. Use that page to arrange an outing around learning about the sanctuary's rescue and care work.
Keep these links handy
Visit Canton links dining, lodging, maps, and attractions in the surrounding area. Look at each address when putting those stops together.
