Paris

A downtown stroll, an Eiffel Tower wearing a cowboy hat, and paved trails give Paris a playful welcome and plenty of local history to explore.

The cowboy hat on the Eiffel Tower makes a memorable introduction to Paris. After that photo, leave time for the square, a house museum, or a walk on the trail. These stops sit in different parts of town, so a little planning lets you spend more of the day enjoying them.

What's happening

Start with Paris events on East Texan. We're still building coverage here, and Visit Paris Texas's event listings are useful for festivals, performances, and other visitor gatherings. The Lamar County Chamber calendar also lists community and business activities. Look at the individual event's year, location, and organizer when making plans.

The Red River Valley Veterans Memorial publishes its own calendar and fundraiser information. For history programs, check the Sam Bell Maxey House visitor page and its links to the site's current information. Keep the dated listing close at hand when you visit; a general festival guide can help you discover an event, but the organizer supplies the practical details.

A few places to start

  • Downtown and Culbertson Fountain: the fountain stands in the center of downtown and commemorates rebuilding after the 1916 fire. Use it as a starting point for a stroll and a meal around the square. The tourism site's free guides include a downtown history tour, giving you something to follow when a building or detail catches your eye.
  • Eiffel Tower: the tower's visitor page places the red-hatted landmark at 2025 S. Collegiate Drive, beside the Love Civic Center. It's a separate stop from downtown. Make room for a photograph, then look at the nearby visitor resources before choosing where to go next.
  • Red River Valley Veterans Memorial: beside the tower, the memorial is at 2035 S. Collegiate Drive. Allow time to read the dedications rather than treating it as part of a quick photo stop. Its operator's website has information about the memorial's features and the museum project; check there for the current status of any indoor visit.
  • Sam Bell Maxey House: the Texas Historical Commission's visitor guide describes tours through restored interiors and original family belongings. The house explores life during Reconstruction and the decades that followed. Read the tour choices and accessibility details before you go; the first floor is wheelchair accessible, while the upper floor requires stairs. Groups should arrange their visit with site staff.
  • Trail de Paris: the paved trail offers space for walking, running, or cycling. The tourism page gives a trail access address at 2005 S. Collegiate Drive and links a map of the wider Northeast Texas Trail. Choose a short out-and-back outing if that's what the day allows, and check the route before extending your ride beyond the Paris section.

Plan a visit

Visit Paris Texas links places to eat, stay, and shop, along with downloadable visitor guides. A downtown meal and one or two of these stops make an easy starting plan.

For a separate outing outside town, Texas Parks and Wildlife's Pat Mayse Lake page places the lake north of Paris and links public access facilities. Choose an access point and check the managing agency's current conditions before heading to the water. Read the Corps of Engineers' visitor guidance and stay on established trails and in developed recreation areas.

These resources were checked October 3, 2026. Neighbors' suggestions can help fill in the everyday places this first guide hasn't reached yet.
