Start with a place where a town's story is visible: a courthouse square, a railroad park, or a depot. Choose one town for the day, then add a museum or a walk if its opening times fit. These are starting points for separate visits rather than a single route to hurry through.
Mineola: railroad history downtown
Iron Horse Square celebrates Mineola's railroad heritage beside the Union Pacific tracks. The city park is at 200 W. Front Street, giving you a downtown starting point for a look around.
If a mini-train ride is part of your plan, use the park's current dated schedule. For an indoor stop, the Mineola Historical Museum has local and postal-history exhibits in a former post office. Confirm its opening arrangements before adding it to your day.
Palestine and Rusk: reserve an excursion
The Texas State Railroad operates excursions on the route between Palestine and Rusk. Pick a particular train trip and give it its own time. The operator's FAQ identifies Palestine as the main departure depot and Rusk as the layover stop for most excursions.
Follow your actual ticket and excursion description for the depot, boarding time, and trip arrangements. A town name alone won't get you to the right departure point. The Palestine and Rusk guides below can help with other stops before or after the ride.
Center: begin on the square
The Historic 1885 Shelby County Courthouse stands at 124 Austin Street, Center. Docents from the William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas maintain its tour information.
Walk the square as part of a town visit, then arrange a tour if you want to see inside. Contact the docents for current availability, especially for a group or a visit outside the listed tour days. A festival on the square can give the visit a different shape; use the Chamber's current calendar for those dates.
Let one place lead to another
Choose the museum, tour, or train departure that matters most to you first. Add a few downtown blocks and a meal around it, leaving enough time to enjoy the details along the way. The town guides below link the local visitor resources for each stop.
