Coming up in Mineola

Leave room for two kinds of afternoon in Mineola: one downtown, among the shops and railroad history, and another out at the nature preserve. A show or community gathering can give the visit a starting point.

What's happening

See Mineola events on East Texan. Coverage is still growing, so keep the city calendar handy, too. The Nature Preserve's updates carry announcements about NatureFest, guided activities, and other gatherings outside downtown. Check the current notice for the particular activity you want to attend.

For movies, stage productions, and concerts, go straight to Lake Country Playhouse and the Historic Select Theater. Its listings also mention events produced by other organizations, sometimes in nearby towns. Read the venue and organizer before making a plan.

Start downtown

Iron Horse Square is at 200 W. Front Street, beside the Union Pacific tracks. The city park celebrates the area's railroad history and hosts family activities and community events. If a mini-train ride is part of the plan, check the park's dated announcements first. A train schedule from a previous year won't tell you whether rides are running on your visit.

The Mineola Historical Museum, at 114 N. Pacific Street, occupies a former post office. Its exhibits include postal equipment, a telegraph office, school history, and a restored postal mural. Contact the museum about current opening times or a group visit.

The Select Theater, at 114 N. Johnson Street, gives you another downtown stop. Choose a specific performance or screening from its schedule, then build the rest of the afternoon around that time. The city's Main Street page links shops and a downloadable walking map to help with the blocks between stops.

Make a separate trip outside

The Mineola Nature Preserve on the Sabine River is a separate drive from downtown. Its resources cover walking, birding, disc golf, mountain biking, and equestrian activities. Pick the entrance that fits your outing: the main hiking entrance is at 1860 CR 2724, while the city lists separate entrances for Greer Hill biking trails and horse trailers or RVs.

Use the preserve's maps and activity information before setting out. A short walk and an equestrian outing need different plans, and an event may name a different meeting point.

These resources were checked October 3, 2026. We'd welcome neighbors' additions about Mineola's everyday places and the traditions that bring people together.
